Winter Car Care Tips

You might have noticed a certain something in the air as you left your house this morning. It's not just you; it's definitely cold out. Winter is here in full force, and it's showing no signs of leaving anytime soon. It's important to take care of yourself and your car when the weather turns. Humans keep warm with winter clothes, but an Audi with a jacket just looks silly. Here are a few things you can do to keep your Audi running its best this winter.

  • Put on your winter tires: The air is cold, and the roads are icy. Both of these are bad for summer tires; the cold causes rubber to shrink and harden, and snow is slippery. Winter tires are made of a softer rubber compound, which means they operate just perfectly in the cold, and they have a special tread pattern to better take on snow and ice.
  • Check your tire pressure: Once you put your winter tires on, it's important to keep them properly inflated. Underinflated tires cause you to lose traction, and causes them to wear down faster. Cold air affects your tire pressure; in fact, your tires lose a pound of pressure for every 10-degree drop in temperature.
  • Protect your wiper blades: Your wiper blades are vital for winter visibility, helping you clean snow, ice, and sand off your windshield. You can help keep them in their best condition by raising them off your windshield when you're parked. When you get back to your car, and there's snow and ice on the windshield, don't use your wipers to clear it all off; use an ice scraper instead.

Those are just a few things you can do to keep your Audi healthy in the winter months. If you have any more questions, just give us a call, or come visit us here in Danbury, CT. We can't wait to help you out.
